"One,
two, three....GO!"
and my feet didn't move.
Body Building is a sculpture made of bricks, butter
and a large colour photograph. The butter sculptures are modeled after buildings
in Montreal, Quebec. This work was inspired
by a BASE jump that the artist made from a building shortly previous to the
exhbition of this work. It is an attempt to find an individual identity in
the corporate architecture and landscape. In the case of BASE jumping, the
jumper transforms the corporate icon of an office building into a personal
diving board. This is antithetical to the desired perception of the structure,
one of security and power. In this artwork, the buildings are made of a material
sensitive to touch and temperature and the scale of them is reversed in relation
to the human body. By doing so, the artist is hoping to generate a poetic reflection
on the complex relationships between individual and corporate needs.

Materials: Butter, Colour Photograph, Brick base
